MAGNUS CARTER is Mentor’s Managing Director. Through his background in journalism and his study for a Masters degree in Management Development at the University of Bristol, Magnus has developed a unique and empowering approach to interpersonal skills and group dynamics.
Magnus has worked on a one to one basis with many senior managers, as an external mentor or as a communication skills coach, developing their impact and influence. He also lectures and coaches in message development, media handling and issues and crisis management, in addition to facilitating meetings and chairing conferences. . By profession a journalist, Magnus began his career with the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, later working as a freelance for national newspapers, and then for more than 20 years in broadcast news and current affairs, where he held senior posts for the BBC and several commercial companies.
SIMON COOPER started out as a broadcaster at Cambridge University Radio, and has been a presenter, station managing director, HR director and Communications Director in his 25 year career in the media. Realising that business and society have much to offer each other, he now specialisrd in Corporate Social Responsibility. In parallel with his CSR work he is an experienced practitioner in Executive Branding, which helps people to discover and refine the personal brand values which give them their place in the world.
A qualified performance coach, Simon graduated in 2005 with an MSc in Responsibility and Business Practice from the School of Management at the University of Bath.
He is a trustee of the Demos think-tank, a member of the Council of the Schumacher Society and a founding director of the Association of Sustainability Practitioners. He sits on the Cause Related Business Leadership Team of Business in the Community, the Business West board, and the Wessex Water Sustainability Panel. He chairs the music therapy charity Bristol MusicSpace, the Encounters Short Film Festival and the fundraising committee of the At-Bristol Hands-On Science Centre. He is a trustee of the Wallace and Gromit's Children’s Foundation, which works with Aardman Animations to raise money for children’s hospitals throughout the UK.
