"
An ability to work well with the news media is one of the key skills needed by those who manage and lead public services. Successful media relations can bring high levels of user satisfaction and help make the best use of what can be precious resources. Failure can, quite frankly, lead to a catastrophic loss of reputation and confidence. The stakes are high. It is about time you gave yourself a fighting chance".
Martin Carter , Lead Consultant
Here is an example of a media training programme Martin could deliver for you:
Handling the Media for Health Organisations
Who should attend:
- All managers in public service who may be required to handle media inquiries or give interviews.
- All those involved in managing or delivering communications strategies in public service organisations.
Sample Agenda
The morning session provides an exciting opportunity for management teams to work together interactively on a major media or communications challenge.
This may be based on a real event, or on an appropriate scenario written by the tutors. Participants also get a chance to explore how it feels from the media point of view.
Includes an examination of the importance and role of the media in public service. If appropriate, may also include a discussion of your own organisation's media policy.
In the afternoon, participants prepare and deliver two broadcast interviews and receive honest but supportive feedback.
The interviews may be based on the morning scenarios, or may be on other topics specially chosen as appropriate for the individual.
